The murder of George Floyd by a police officer has sent shock waves around the globe. This is just the latest in a long line of racist attacks in the US. But in our society too, there continues to be racism and hate crime.

Racism has no place in our institutions, our communities or in our lives, here in Exeter or in any other community across the globe. This weekend and in the days ahead many solidarity events will take place in Exeter to say loudly and clearly that Black Lives Matter.

Beyond the important demonstrations of solidarity we must all act to ensure we expose and challenge racism wherever we see it and work to promote equality, ensuring everyone in our community is able to live free of prejudice and in peace.
