St Sidwell’s and St James

St Sidwell’s and St James division includes four Exeter City Council wards: Duryard & St James (covering St James), Pennsylvania (covering Polsloe), Heavitree (covering Ladysmith Road) and Newtown & St Leonard’s (covering Newtown).

our County Council candidate in May 2025 is

Thomas Richardson

Thomas is a young and passionate candidate determined to bring positive change to St Sidwell’s & St James.

He works in the heart of the division at Exeter City Football Club, as well as on our local railways. With a strong work ethic evident in the hard work he has put in across all parts of St Sidwell’s & St James over the last year, Thomas will bring a fresh perspective and positive attitude to Devon County Council, determined to represent residents and give them a voice at County Hall.

Having spoken to residents on the doorstep all year long, Thomas is well aware of the issues affecting St Sidwell’s & St James. From fly-tipping in St James to rat-running and speeding in Polsloe, Thomas will bring solutions to these problems whilst putting residents’ views first. He has been busy reporting pot holes, damaged street furniture and dangerous trip hazards across the division. His pressure on Devon County Council will ensure they get the basics right.

Why vote for Thomas Richardson? The evidence is clear – the Green Party is on the rise in Exeter. Within St Sidwell’s & St James, four existing councillors are Green. It is neck and neck between Green and Labour, with just these two parties able to win here in St Sidwell’s & St James.

Working hard for our community and getting the basics right

I work in the heart of the local community, at Exeter City Football Club and on our local railways. I have been working hard all year round on behalf of residents, including:
– Campaigning for the safety of cyclists and pedestrians on Stoke Hill Roundabout
– Consulting with residents in the Monks Road area about rat-running and speeding
– Securing the repair of a zebra crossing on Polsloe Road.

A strong, independent voice to represent you

Listening to residents, it is clear you are not happy with some of the County Council’s decisions. I want to ensure that your voice is heard. I know how important it is to
find solutions together. If elected, I will push the council to get the basics right. This means:
– Proper public engagement
– Fair and timely decisions for those needing adult social care
– Working better with parents and carers to help improve SEND services
– Making sure pavements are clean, clear and safe
– Fixing potholes and ensure road crossings are in the right place
– Ensuring that drains are cleared to prevent flooding

The Green Party does not tell its councillors how to vote, so I will be free to stand up for our area.
