The city council has had private contractors running leisure facilities for some years now – and we all know how well that has gone! The new Leader of Exeter Labour, Phil Bialyk, is a self-professed opponent of privatisation and supports re-nationalisation of key services. Exeter Green Party has therefore now written to the new leader of Exeter Labour, asking him whether he now plans to switch council policy away from outsourcing, over to ‘in-house’ contracts. We believe that the city’s leisure facilities would be far better run by an in-house team than a large, faceless company.
