Climate change and air pollution are priorities for Heavitree and Whipton says by election candidate

Lizzie Woodman Exeter Green Party candidate Heavitree and Whipton by electionExeter Green Party members have selected a former Devon County Council Special Education Needs case manager as their candidate in the upcoming County Council by-election in the Heavitree and Whipton ward. Lizzie Woodman, who has lived in Exeter for over 20 years, says the most urgent priority is to address the climate emergency and that doing so will create cleaner, greener and more healthy communities.

Her priority for the Heavitree and Whipton ward is to tackle the ward’s illegal levels of air pollution and make it safer and more pleasant for people to walk and cycle. Lizzie Woodman said:

“Tackling the climate emergency can help us create cleaner, greener, safer and more healthy communities. So, in Heavitree and Whipton tackling climate change means taking bold measures to reduce traffic levels – a major source of carbon emissions and toxic air in the ward.

“Greens will press at County level for measures including a workplace parking levy which will help to reduce commuter traffic and rat running in the ward. This would clean up our air and make our streets safer for walking and cycling. All of which will lead to improved levels of health and wellbeing.”

Lizzie Woodman previously worked as a social worker and has been active in local campaigns against cuts to services including Youth Services, Services for Women and local Health Services. She is a committed Trade Union member and keen cyclist and walker.
