our COUNTY Council candidate in May 2025 is

MARTIN AYRES
A local candidate who understands the concerns of ordinary people Having spent a career working across a wide range of communities as an NHS nurse, I have seen first-hand the issues that directly affect local people on a day to-day basis. I have also watched as rents and house prices in the city have escalated, making it difficult for people on average incomes to afford somewhere to live. Privatised bus companies cutting routes, making it difficult for parents to get their children to school and pensioners becoming further isolated because they can’t go out. I have also watched as green spaces are sold off to the highest bidder meaning children have fewer safe places to play. As a nurse I have always tried to advocate for vulnerable people, but the changes we are witnessing in our society means a different approach is needed. Which is why I am running as a councillor for Exeter Green Party. I believe the skills and experience I have gained from a career in the NHS, alongside my passion for social issues such as affordable housing and transport, protecting our green spaces and fighting climate change, will help to bring about positive change in the city and ward I represent. I am a great believer in community empowerment. If you elect me, I will make sure your voices are heard, that the council pays attention to residents’ views and take decisive action on problems they face, so we can make your area an even better place, safer place to live. I chose to stand for the Green party because they align with my values and more importantly, don’t tell you how to vote, so I can always put you first. Also, unlike other parties, the Green Party doesn’t take corporate donations, so the only people I am accountable to is you. So if you want a local candidate who can stand up for your neighbourhood and work hard for you, please vote for me. Green support is growing Green Party councillors have a track record of hard work in their communities all year round, not just at election time. When people elect hard working Green Party councillors, they like what they get and want more. Over the last five years, the number of Green councillors in Exeter has grown from one to seven. Change is coming at Devon County Council – support for the Tories has collapsed and Labour is failing to deliver positive change either locally or nationally. At a time when local councils are to be reorganised, we need councillors who will fight for local democracy and put the needs of our communities before the interests of their party. |
